Funding a Collaboration
We welcome both academic and industrial collaborations. Based within Cardiff Metropolitan University, our Research and Innovation Services team have experienced and expert grant proposal writers and advisors that work with us and partners to produce high quality and successful grant applications.
A range of funding options are available to facilitate analysis and we have previously been successful in gaining both Welsh and UK government funding. Being in Wales, the Welsh Government supports industrial and academic collaboration with a wide range of schemes. These are constantly being updated so please get in touch with us to discuss options in some more detail.

Funding a Collaboration
We welcome both academic and industrial collaborations. Based within Cardiff Metropolitan University, our Research and Innovation Services team have experienced and expert grant proposal writers and advisors that work with us and partners to produce high quality and successful grant applications.
A range of funding options are available to facilitate analysis and we have previously been successful in gaining both Welsh and UK government funding. Being in Wales, the Welsh Government supports industrial and academic collaboration with a wide range of schemes. These are constantly being updated so please get in touch with us to discuss options in some more detail.

Short Term
- (1 day to 6 months)
Have a particular project in mind? Want to trial your device against some pathogens? A consultancy-based project may be the best option, here we will discuss the study with you, produce a proposal and quote based on your needs and provide the results within an agreed timeframe.
We work with you to design and agree the test parameters and complete the testing with your specifications, the laboratory work will be completed by members of the team.
Short Term
- (1 day to 6 months)

Medium- Long Term
- (6 – 18 months)
Based in Wales, and would like to carry out research and development of a product or undertake an in-depth study over a longer period of time? A Welsh government SMART partnership may be the best option.
We will work together to produce a joint proposal with agreed costs and submit an application to the Welsh government, if successful, the Welsh Government will cover a large proportion of the overall project costs, this is typically 50% of the overall project cost, with the remainder being a mix of cash and in-kind contribution from the company. In these cases, we will (with your collaboration) recruit an associate (BSc or above qualified) to be dedicated and to work on your project for its duration, this is typically between 6-12 months.
For companies based outside Wales, a similar scheme is provided by the UK government, and we can discuss the options related to this with you.
Medium- Long Term
- (6 – 18 months)
Based in Wales, and would like to carry out research and development of a product or undertake an in-depth study over a longer period of time? A Welsh government SMART partnership may be the best option.
We will work together to produce a joint proposal with agreed costs and submit an application to the Welsh government, if successful, the Welsh Government will cover a large proportion of the overall project costs, this is typically 50% of the overall project cost, with the remainder being a mix of cash and in-kind contribution from the company. In these cases, we will (with your collaboration) recruit an associate (BSc or above qualified) to be dedicated and to work on your project for its duration, this is typically between 6-12 months.

For projects that require in depth R&D, marketing expertise, product development and many other applications, a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) may be the best option.
Typically lasting between 18 months and 3 years; Here we will agree an in-depth project plan with specific milestones.
Partially funded by the UK government, these are intended to develop your product portfolio and lead to an increase in revenue. With your collaboration, an associate will be recruited to work on the project for its duration and will work across your company and Cardiff Met.
Based in Wales? There are Welsh Government incentives including a greater funding share for collaborating with a Welsh University, with Welsh SME’s typically having 75% of the overall project cost fully funded.
Long Term
